NALF To Elect New Board Members at Annual Meeting

The Nominating Committee has slated Mat Lewis, Colorado (second term); Charles Linhart, Iowa (second term); Harris Mosher, Pennsylvania (second term); John Goodish, Pennsylvania; Fred Wacker, Montana; and Gary O’Neal, Arkansas, as candidates for the NALF Board.

Biographies of candidates can be found in the December issue of Limousin World.

Don’t Miss the Membership Banquet

The 2012 NALF Annual Membership Banquet will be held Monday, January 9, at 6 p.m., and will recognize the 2011 Medal of Excellence (MOE) award winners. Call the NALF office by January 6 to reserve your tickets for $40 each.

Also at the banquet, you will have the opportunity to support the North American Limousin Junior Association (NALJA) and the All-American Limousin Futurity (AALF) at the “Genetics on Ice” benefit auction following the social. For more information, contact Ken Holloway, 580/597-2419 or Kasey Woolam at the NALF office.

Roll the Dice and Take “Your Chance”

The sixth Corner Post package will sell during the National Limousin Sale January 10. Spring Crks Your Chance is an April 2011 50 percent Red Lim-Flex daughter of CJSL Windfall 9072W. “Your Chance” combines a sound genetic package with quality phenotype and outstanding docility. Here’s Your Chance to double down on powerful, outcross genetics while supporting tomorrow’s leaders.

Spring Creeks Cattle Co. of Wisconsin has graciously donated this attractive female from the heart of their herd. All proceeds from the package will benefit the Corner Post Fund, which facilitates educational activities and scholarships for Limousin juniors.

For information about contributing to the Corner Post Fund, contact Bret Begert at 806/375-2308 or Kasey Woolam in the NALF office.

‘Spotlight’ Your Herd

NALF has launched a revamped version of the commercial publication, Bottom Line. It is a quarterly publication that will be distributed in December, March, June and September. The distribution list has grown to include more than 25,000 Limousin customers, commercial producers and potential customers. The publication is a joint effort between Limousin World and NALF, and has been redesigned as a tabloid publication.

Promote your enterprise in Bottom Line by placing a “Breeder Spotlight” advertisement in the publication. For $500 per year (four issues), you can reach out directly to commercial cattle producers nationwide. Contact Brooke Bennett in the NALF office to reserve your space.

Scidera Now Processing Samples

Effective immediately, Scidera (formally MMI Genomics) is processing samples for NH (Neuropathic Hydrocephalus) and AM (Arthrogryposis Multiplex) tests.

As in the past, results will be sent to NALF and then released to members. If you have animals with samples already at Scidera that you would like to have tested, contact Mary Zilk in the NALF office for processing.

LIMS Lowers Business Costs

The voluntary Limousin Inventory Management System (LIMS) helps NALF members lower their cost of doing business. LIMS participants pay an annual fee of $15 per active cow and, in turn, are entitled to record performance for, register, and transfer that year’s calf crop. That is a $12 savings over the least costly registration and transfer in the traditional fee structure.

LIMS herds make a commitment to annually report weaning weights and chute scores for all calves raised to weaning, a reason for no calf and/or a culling code for every cow. Submitting such complete, comprehensive production information contributes to inventory-proven genetics with more accurate EPDs.

The deadline to enroll in LIMS for Spring 2012 is February 14, 2012. Contact Mary Zilk in the NALF office to enroll.

NALF Office Needs Its Copy

When registering ET calves or submitting samples for testing, be sure to send one copy of the form with the sample to the laboratory, one copy of the form to the NALF office and keep a copy of the form for your records. If you forget to send a copy to NALF, it prevents registration and restricts process results.

Are You Receiving e-Partners?

Have you been receiving e-Partners and other electronic communications from NALF? If you haven’t, please confirm your e-mail address with the NALF office. NALF is using e-mail to send out important updates and news about the breed. You don’t want to miss important updates or deadlines.

E-Mail Data to Correct Address

When e-mailing performance data to NALF, use the edata@nalf.org address. Staff members check that account daily. Other NALF accounts can go unread when staff members are out of the office.

Inventory Forms Are Free

Cow-inventory birth-report forms are available free of charge from the NALF office. The preprinted sheets include information about all active cows in a member’s herd inventory. To request your forms call the NALF office.

The NALF Staff is Here For You

If you have an upcoming state or regional event and would like a NALF representative present, please contact the NALF office. The spring sale season is coming up, so make sure your event is on the NALF schedule.

Limousin On Display at 2012 Cattle Industry Convention

Cattle producers attending the 2012 Cattle Industry Annual Convention & Trade Show, February 1-4 in Nashville, Tennessee, have the opportunity to learn more about the Limousin breed. NALF will have a booth, #773, across from the demonstration area and will showcase Limousin and Lim-Flex bulls from Englewood Farms and Wulf Limousin Farms to the projected 6,000+ commercial customers in the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) Trade Show.
