First things first. I would like to let everyone know how excited I am to be on the Limousin World team. So far, I have enjoyed meeting numerous breeders and getting to see great Limousin cattle across the Midwest. With that, I am more excited than ever to be a part of the cattle business and Limousin breed.
Speaking of the cattle business, feeder cattle prices and bred cow prices are at an all-time high and beef producers are being rewarded for their dedication to the beef business.
February is my favorite month of the year, the new calves are hitting the ground and bull sale season is underway. It is a very busy time for everyone in this industry and soon it will be time to select your next herd sire, which we all know is a very important investment.
There is no doubt that selecting the bull worthy to turn out on your herd is an important decision. Growing up helping my dad make the selection for the next herd sire was always a great adventure. You get to analyze all angles of your herd and find the perfect fit.
Joining the Limousin breed has reminded me there are many aspects to be evaluated when making breeding decisions for your operation. Each breeder has specific goals for his operation, which might not fit their neighbors, but remaining focused on your goals will result in improvement and keep you moving forward toward the common goal—raising high- quality cattle.
I look forward to seeing the great cattle Limousin breeders have to offer the cattle industry this spring sale season. I will be attending many bull sales this spring and would be happy to help assist with your marketing and promotion.
I look forward to getting to know many of you better as you continue your quest to not only improve your herd and the Limousin breed, but the beef industry in general.
